When mounting a 3 pin regulator I have found that when using a connector for the 3 pins the resulting circuit is usually unreliable and often during high current conditions the connector would over heat. I fabricate a small circuit board with 3 pads for the regulator pins using a Dremel tool or a sharp razor blade. The voltage regulator pins are soldered to the copper pads. Additional pads can be cut for mounting other circuit components.

Solder tabs make a nice mount and in the event it is easy to replace the regulator. The regulator is insulated from the chassis and uses the chassis as a heat sink.
