Mission: Remount HC6/U internal crystal elements in FT-243 holders. Throw away the HC-6 holders.

 

Overview: By unsoldering the outer case from an HC-6 holder you can have access to the actual crystal and its leads. Unsolder this crystal assembly and remount inside the FT-243 holder.

 
   Unsolder the HC-6 case

   Unsolder the crystal leads"and remove the assembly. Handle carefully.
   

   Disassemble the FT-243 		  

    Lift up the copper pads that are connected to the main pins
    Trim the copper pads with a pair of scissors.    Using a Dremel tool enlarge the interior of the FT-243 to accommodate the new crystal.
    Tin the small tabs remaining and your crystal is:
